Who We Help
Schools
“The primary goal of my giving has been to support organizations that make a difference in the lives of children. Some children are more vulnerable, with fewer advantages. All children deserve a chance for a good future.”
CAROL PETERSON, DONOR
Through the generosity of donors, the Catholic Foundation of Rhode Island provides long-term financial support to the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Providence.
Catholic schools educate over 11,700 students at thirty-seven schools (grades PreK through 12) throughout the state. Through faith-based education, these Catholic schools provide academic excellence infused with Christian values. They serve as dynamic faith communities for students and their families, as well as faculty and staff, and encourage intellectual achievements as well as spiritual, social, and emotional growth.
Beyond tuition assistance, the Catholic Foundation of Rhode Island is able to provide long-term support to Catholic schools in a myriad of ways:
• Facilities repairs and renovations
• Classroom supplies and resources
• New and improved academic programs
• Faculty and staff professional development
• School events and celebrations

“You don’t need a great sum of money to make a difference in child’s life.”
KATHRYN HACHIGIAN, DONOR
“Saint Raphael Academy is thrilled to be working in conjunction with the Catholic Foundation to ensure the economic viability of our Academy. The leadership at SRA made a conscious decision to build our endowment to guarantee all students interested in our school will be able to afford a Catholic high school experience. The generosity and kindness of our alumni and friends have spearheaded our endowment efforts; the philanthropic giving from our past students is securing an outstanding education for our future students!”

Priests & Seminarians
The education of seminarians and the support for retired priests are one of the four major ministries the Catholic Foundation of Rhode Island stewards through endowed funds.
The preparation of clergy for parish service takes years and often those called to serve as parish priests come from families of modest means. Endowed funds dedicated to the education of seminarians enable future priests to follow their vocations without dependence on their families for support.
After retiring, many parish priests continue to serve Christ and the faithful. They live independently and no longer rely upon their parishes for such fundamentals as housing and food. These endowed funds help our retired priests retire with dignity.

Parishes
The parish is where the Church lives. Parishes are communities of faith, of action, and of hope. They are where the Gospel is proclaimed and celebrated, where believers are formed and sent to renew the earth. Parishes are the home of the Christian community; they are the heart of our Church. Parishes are the place where God’s people meet Jesus in word and sacrament and come in touch with the source of the Church’s life.
COMMUNITIES OF SALT AND LIGHT: REFLECTIONS ON THE SOCIAL MISSION OF THE PARISH
UNITED STATES CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS
There are 119 Catholic parishes throughout Rhode Island’s five counties. Hundreds of thousands of Roman Catholics call these parishes their spiritual home, a home in which they meet Jesus, listen to His Word, and receive Him in the Eucharist. They are sent forth from these parishes to share the Good News of God’s love with the world. These parishes are a dynamic force of good throughout the state.
These visible churches are not simply gathering places but signify and make visible the Church living in this place, the dwelling of God with men reconciled and united in Christ.
CCC 1180 CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
The Catholic Foundation of Rhode Island, through the generosity of parishioners’ donations, is able to provide long-term financial support to parishes across the diocese. These funds assist parishes in a multitude of ways:
• expansion or renovation of church facilities
• grounds and cemetery maintenance
• creating new ministries or strengthening existing ministries
• operating expenses
• emergency funds
• outreach efforts

The Catholic Foundation assists our parish in establishing a more secure foundation for our future. The funds we receive through the foundation assist us in attending to unexpected circumstances more comfortably as they arise.
